Statement by Queens County Republican Party Chairman Phil Ragusa Endorsing Senator John McCain for President
“While we had hoped for a different outcome, we are proud of the honorable campaign run by Mayor Giuliani, and we will always be grateful for his leadership, from before 1993 on through and beyond 9-11. I will always value my personal friendship with him, and we enthusiastically join the Mayor in endorsing our next president, Senator John McCain.
It is clear that the best candidate to lead our nation in these difficult times, with our nation facing economic uncertainty and the ongoing challenge of the war against radical Islamic extremism, is Senator John McCain.
Senator McCain has been a friend to New York and I am sure that his candidacy and eventual presidency will grow the Republican Party and help our candidates in what we expect to be competitive and ultimately victorious campaigns this November and beyond. He is the best Republican candidate to compete with whoever the Democratic nominee is- indeed the stakes in this election are too high to let the White House fall back into Democratic hands.
Senator McCain’s “Straight Talk” refreshing approach to politics can appeal to and bring together a broad coalition of conservatives, independents and moderates to accomplish real results in the years ahead. A true American hero, his years of service to our nation shows that he is the right man at the right time to be the nominee of our Party and the President of our country.
The Queens GOP will work hard to help Senator McCain to victory in New York’s primary on February 5th and in the general election this fall, along with what we anticipate to be Republican leaders throughout New York. “
Already, New York’s finest Republican leaders have lent their support to Senator McCain, including Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, Assembly Minority Leader James Tedesco, and Queens’ own Senators Frank Padavan and Serf Maltese.
Senator Padavan remarked, “Senator McCain’s noble and courageous service to our nation, and his longstanding commitment to put the best interests of the American people above all other concerns, are precisely the qualities we need in our President at this time.”
Senator Serphin R. Maltese stated "I believe that Senator John McCain has the experience and skills that are an absolute necessity to be the leader of our great country."
Grant Lally, Regional Coordinator for McCain's campaign, said "Senator John McCain is thrilled to have the unanimous support of the Queens County Republican Party as well as Queens' two Republican Senators, Frank Padavan and Serf Maltese.
Exec. Vice Chair Vince Tabone stated "John McCain is an American hero and has the leadership skills and judgment that are so sorely needed during these trying times. The Queens GOP will work with John McCain to reach out to Republican voters to ensure a resounding victory in the February 5th Republican Primary, and to Independents, Conservatives and moderate Democrats for another victory in November!"
